MAN “forgets” to return BMW to dealer

@ approximately 3:02 PM –Police arrested Andre S. Brown, age 40 of Scotch Plains, NJ and charged him with theft of movable property – value greater than $500.00, but less than $75,000.00 following an investigation. On November 16, a service manager at Flemington BMW reported to police that the dealership had provided Brown with a loaner vehicle that was now past due for return.

The vehicle was a 2017 BMW X1. During the course of the investigation, a warrant was issued for Brown’s arrest charging him with theft of movable property. On November 17, the Raritan Township Police Department was notified that Brown was arrested by the Perth Amboy Police Department and would be transferred to the Middlesex County Jail. Brown was not in the BMW when he was arrested. On November 21, the dealership contacted police and advised that their vehicle had been retuned. On November 23, Raritan Township Police responded to the Middlesex County Jail and took custody of Brown. Brown was returned to Raritan Township where his arrest was processed. He was then turned over to the Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Department to be lodged in the Somerset County Jail. Initial investigation by P.O. Margaret Hammond, follow up investigation by Det. Geoffrey Benz and arrest by Detective Brian Sutherland.
