Marijuana charges

On Monday, June 6, at approximately 12:00 pm, an officer stopped a 2000 Honda Accord operated by Marquise Irizarry, age 19, of Perth Amboy, on Route 22 at Route 621 for motor vehicle violations. During the stop, the officer immediately detected the odor of burnt marijuana inside of the vehicle and soon discovered a small amount of it. As a result, Mr. Irizarry, Angel Lopez-Martinez, age 19, of Perth Amboy, and Jelisa Ortiz, age 18, of Perth Amboy, and two seventeen (17) year-old boys from Perth Amboy were each arrested and charged with Possession of Under 50 Grams of Marijuana. Mr. Irizarry was additionally charged with Failure to Stop at Red Light, Improper Backing in Street, Operating a Motor Vehicle While In Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Failure to Produce an Insurance Card. Mr. Lopez-Martinez and Ms. Ortiz were issued motor vehicle summonses for Failure to Wear Seatbelt. The adults were released ROR and the juveniles were released to an adult not involved in the incident.
