NY JETS FILET THE FISH – Trouble Spots still exist

JETLIFE STADIUM –  When you are on a multiple game losing streak any win is a good win and it’s hard to nitpick when you put up 38 points, but Jet fans who were flying high again yesterday better beware, Miami is an awful team and they still put up 3 touchdowns.

On the good side, Fitzie played a turnover free game, which is one of the HUGE keys to the season, and tossed four TD’s spreading the ball around nicely. Ivory seemed to get back on track, not coincidentally Mangold played the whole game. The Rook finally scored a touchdown after basically being invisible in the past and costing the Jets the buffalo game with a fumble on a kick off. His injuries seemed to be healing up and he does have blazing speed. When Miami put points on the board to try and make it a game the Jets immediately drove down the field and put up 7.  Solid effort

On the bad – for some reason the Jets are still struggling trying to get one yard on third down and missed a crucial fourth down conversion in the first quarter that would have burned them playing anyone with talent, Ton Brady for example.  For some reason they insist on putting everyone on the line and trying to burrow Ivory into the line. Spread them out and let Fitzie sneak it, much more effective way to get the small yardage needed and Fitz seems to get fired up doing it.

On the D side it’s hard to Judge. When Miami’s center called it a day the team might as well have followed him into the locker room as the backup bounced fifteen balls into Tannehill’s feet giving him no chance. It was good to see the Jets get in a four line front on occasion but they are still failing miserably in trying to get a consistent pass rush against a miserable offensive line, which is why the Jets get toasted against Brady. This coming week if they don’t get a sustained rush against Eli you can expect JR. to be running wild all over the secondary.

Without Revis and then his back up who made a nice pick and got hurt returning it, the Jets secondary still held up ok.  Pryor looks healthy again and was laying the leather on many Miami receivers. Skrine looked just fine and hopefully a return of Revis will give them a boost.

OVERALL GRADE  B – The boys did what they needed to do to get a W putting them above 500 and in the wild car hunt but one has to wonder if this type of effort will be good enough against the G Men and the Pats. Right now it looks like Gang Green will need 4 more wins to insure a playoff spot which means taking care of the hapless Titans, beating the injured Cowboys, beating Rex like they should have in game one and then splitting with Giants/ Patriots. Hopefully this game was a momentum starter that will allow them to roll through December and start the New Year with playoff glitter.
