Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, Chief of Detectives John J. Kuczynski, and Raritan Township Police Chief Glenn Tabasko announced that a joint investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and the Raritan Township Police Department led to the arrest of one individual on multiple charges.

According to Chief Tabasko, “On Monday, November 16, 2015 at approximately 1:56 PM, Raritan Township Police arrested Sohail Rasheed, age 30, with a last known address in Parlin, NJ, following a motor vehicle stop on Rt. 202.”

Chief Tabasko continued, “Patrolman Brian Sutherland was running stationary radar on Rt. 202 when he observed a white Dodge Charger traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. Patrolman Sutherland attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver, later identified as the defendant, refused to stop. Rasheed was found to be an unlicensed driver and resisted arrest. The two passengers in the car were unable to produce identification.”

According to Prosecutor Kearns, “During this investigation, police observed suspicious circumstances that required them to take precautionary measures to include the deployment of a K-9. No contraband was found and there was no apparent immediate danger to the public.”

Rasheed was charged with eluding police (3rd degree), resisting arrest (4th degree), and obstructing the administration of law (4th degree). He was also issued motor vehicle summonses for speeding, reckless driving, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, unlicensed driver, and failure to exhibit documents.

The two passengers in the car were not charged. After processing, Rasheed was turned over to the Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Department and transported to the Somerset County Jail where he was lodged. Bail was set at $20,000 by the Honorable Bradford M. Bury, J.S.C.
