PASSED OUT BEHIND THE WHEEL 325 Bags of Synthetic Marijuana Seized

On Tuesday, April 7, at approximately 11:10 am, a motorist reported an erratic driver on Route 22 near Petticoat Lane. The caller advised that a silver Pontiac Sunfire with Maryland registration and occupied by four (4) males wearing baseball caps drove onto the median twice before making an illegal u-turn. Officers responded to the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. However, at approximately 11:30 am, Patrolman Brian Dickson was conducting a routine check of the Round Valley Boat Launch on Route 629 near Route 621 when he observed a silver Pontiac Sunfire with Maryland registration parked at the back of the lot. Upon closer inspection, Ptl. Dickson observed that the driver appeared to be passed out. When aroused, the driver identified himself as Daniel R. Walls but this was determined to be an alias. Ptl. Dickson soon observed what appeared to be partially-smoked marijuana cigarettes and loose marijuana in the vehicle and therefore called for his supervisor, Patrolman Harry Bugal. After further investigation, the officers discovered three hundred and twenty-five (325) bags of synthetic marijuana in the vehicle. As a result, Ptl. Dickson arrested Randall Freehling, age 24, Ian Clifford, age 22, and Caleb Jones, age 21, all of Hagerstown, MD, as well as Alexander Fowler, age 23, of Smithsburg, MD. Each was charged with Possession of Synthetic Marijuana with Intent to Distribute and Being Under the Influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. In addition, Mr. Freehling was charged with Hindering Apprehension, Driving While Suspended, Operating a Motor Vehicle While In Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Failure to Produce Documents. Each was lodged in the Hunterdon County Jail in default of $25,000 bail. The Clinton Township Police Department Detective Bureau and the Hunterdon County Narcotics Task Force assisted.
