Paul D. “Chip” Higgins, 59, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, NJ.. Born in Montclair, NJ, son of the late Paul E. Higgins and survived by his mother, Olive (Bartholomew) Caruso, Chip resided in Bloomfield, NJ and Union, NJ before settling in Flemington twenty-three years ago.
Chip worked with IBEW Local 164 as an Electrical Superintendent and earned a 35 year award upon retirement. He was highly respected in his career and industry. After retirement from IBEW, he worked with Skanska Building, USA, at the World Trade Center in NYC. Chip was also a member of the Raritan Township Board of Adjustments for eight years. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges. He was the proud owner of a 1973 red Corvette Stingray and was an avid collector of Lionel trains. Most importantly, Chip dedicated his life to family, especially his wife and two beloved daughters, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
Chip is survived by his loving wife of thirty-two years, Janet Bongiorno Higgins; loving children, Cristina Higgins Nash and her husband Kevin Nash, and Alicia Higgins; dear sisters, Eileen McLaughlin and her husband Gregory McLaughlin and Elizabeth Mann and her husband Richard Mann. He will be deeply missed by many cherished nieces and nephews, Lori, Bethany, and Sarah Bongiorno, Emily and Katherine Chamberlain; Christopher McLaughlin and his wife Jennifer, Peter McLaughlin and his wife Kayla, Trevor McLaughlin, Stephen Mann, Alexander Mann, and Michael Mann; and an adored great niece, Emma June McLaughlin.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Flemington, NJ 08822 on Saturday, June 20 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Monday, June 22 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 22 beginning 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 105 Summer Road, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 with Fr. Tom Serafin officiating. Committal words and entombment will follow at St. Magdalen Mausoleum in Flemington.
