QFC acquires “First Responder Center” to improve service
May 21, 2016
The Quakertown Fire Company has acquired a property in Union Twp to help improve our service now and in the future as new porgrams are expanded. The property, located at 2 Perryville Road, has three buildings on site incluidng a house with 5 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.
After meeting with professionals and designing plans for an expansion of our current station and going thru the approval process, the cost of the renovation was a hurdle that required another look at our options. The building committee looked at several “off-site” options and decided on this property based upon its size and location of proximity to our station as well as the cost.
After year’s of anticpation, the first use of the “First Responder Center” is something our members could never have imagined. On April 13, a fire heavily damaged a house on Pittstown Road and displaced the family. That house is located directly accross the street from our new property and almost immediately it seemed like a good fit for the displaced family to live while their house is being rebuilt. Working with the family, the insurance company and our members, the idea was quickly approved.
Our next use of the property will be the start of the QFC “Bunk-in Program” which allows for members to live in the house while serving the community as firefighters or EMTs with QFC. The program should kick-off in the 1st quarter of 2017. If interested in applying for the program, contact QFC thru social media or by stopping the station.
Thanks to all those who have stepped forward to help QFC make this project a reality by supporting our and especially those who have donated furniture and services in the last few weeks to make sure a local family in need can make it their “home” while their house is rebuilt.
