On April 26, 2017, at 7 p.m. the Raritan Twp Planning Board will most likely be voting on an application by WAWA to put in a grocery mart and gas station abutting a residential neighborhood in Raritan Twp. Residents are up in arms and believe that the Planning Board is folding to corporate pressure by considering variances and improper usage on the property.

We have already discussed the drug related problems that might exist should a 24 hour store be put in place at this location but how about a more practical problem, traffic nightmare.
Now most of you are aware of the Wawa location a bit farther north on rt 31 that got jammed down the throats of the Flemington planning board. Getting out of that location is a nightmare. Everyday there are 100’s of just miss accidents and that location as people try to jump out on the highway. This new proposed site is the same.
Situated on an exit loop around corner, there is already a large traffic congestion nightmare at this spot. Imagine if you put in a busy gas station convenient market at this spot. The traffic would be insane and dangerous. Accidents would increase, traffic would increase and it would be even more difficult to make your way through the Flemington area. Good planning would not put this use on this site. Go to the meeting and express your displeasure, it’s the only way to avoid another bad piece of planning in Raritan Twp.
