RESTAURANT REVIEW DORA FOR LUNCH WITH A WONDERFUL CAB FROM GRAPE FINALE

With a new workout eating regiment underway my biggest meal of the day is now coming mid afternoon which opens up a wide array of restaurants in the Hunterdon Somerset Morris area in which to have a very affordable delectable feast.  This past Monday I got a call from an old friend who had the day off and we chatted about where to eat locally for a substantial spread and we decided to eat in downtown Clinton.

Stop one – Dora – which is located right in the middle of main street Clinton. You can park on the street right in front if you are lucky or use the municipal lot off of Center Street and it’s a 30 second walk from there.

Odds are if you are eating a late lunch, after 1 p.m. ,  Monday through Thursday, you will most likely have your choice of tables and you can prop yourself up in one of their large bay windows and watch the bustling shoppers  from above. It s a charming place to sit and very relaxed. The staff is very attentive and will shower you with attention if you wish or leave you alone if you want to have a lengthy romantic chat. There is no pressure, you make of it what you wish.

The lunch menu is both diverse and well priced. You can see it in its entirely here   http://www.dorarestaurantnj.com/menus/LunchMenu.pdf

We started with the Beef Carpaccio which was sliced perfectly thin and melted in your mouth. The salad served in the middle had a wonderfully flavored vinaigrette on top and complemented the sliced meat just right.  Very nice dish.

7

Entrée  – Crab Cake Salad – A very generous portion and upon completion the plate was clean for an indication of how good it was.

9

Entrée  – Capellini Putanesca – Wow the flavors were jumping all over this dish, if you like capers and both black and green olives you are going to love this thin pasta. The portion was so generous there was a doggy bag at the conclusion.

Wine – Dora is a bring your own restaurant and there is no corking fee. Earlier in the day I paid a visit to Grape Finale Flemington, a fabulous place if you are interested in learning the techniques it takes to make wine. Under the overseeing eye of Proprietor Van Den Woldenberg first time winemakers have won awards throughout NJ for more info you can go tohttp://www.grapefinale.com/   As I went on my merry way Lisa gave me a 2012 Cabernet that had been made in her on site winery and it was bold, bright and delicious and a perfect complement to the pasta dish so Bravo and thank you to Lisa.

Being overstuffed at this point we opted not to sample there large dessert menu but if you are a sweet lover there are a lot of options.

Two double espressos to wash away the mid afternoon full belly malaise and the meal was complete.

If you would like a reasonable priced lunch in a wonderful location with a friendly staff??  Who wouldn’t??   Then Dora is a very nice option. We would go back anytime.
