  Spring Sports Festival Bowling Results 

 

The culmination of the New Jersey Special Olympics annual bowling program was celebrated at the state Spring Sports Festival on March 28 and 29 and was held at the Brunswick Zone in North Brunswick, NJ. Barbara Berger, the Local Program Coordinator and Head bowling coach for her Hunterdon County Turkeys, registered 19 bowlers to participate in the weekend competitions. Saturday, March 28, was the state team competition day and the “Hunterdon Hotshots” traditional team, comprised solely of Special Olympics athletes Emil Ciccotelli, Tamaryn Lehman, Erica Schaefer and Mark Weidman, received the bronze medal in their division.

 

Fifteen athletes participated in the Singles Competition on Sunday, March 28.  Eleven of these bowlers, placed in the top three positions, on March 29. Bob Lohner won the only gold medal in the program. Silver medals were awarded to: John Clapperton, Dan Kenny, Adam Hoff, Brian Ellis, Denise Franco, Katie McGee and Bernadette Tomsky. Bronze medals were presented to Jimmy Dennihy, Dorothy Justynska and Mark Kiskurno. Sarah Martin came in fourth place and fifth place medals were given to Matt Buchsbaum, Jamie Goldstein and Gary Hegedus.

 

Currently, training for Track and Field athletes is taking place at North Hunterdon High School. The local training program competition date is Sunday, May 3. Bocce and softball practices will begin shortly.

 

Special Olympics is a year round program. Families and staff from group homes are encouraged to register their athletes so that they may choose which sports they would like to participate in.
