Flemington, NJ- Rita A. (Terhune) Kane, 92, entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Bridgeway Care and Rehabilitation Center at Hillsborough in Hillsborough, NJ. Born in Jersey City, NJ, daughter of the late Daniel and Emma (Clark) Terhune, she had resided in many places throughout New Jersey, most notably, Lyndhurst, NJ and Flemington.
For many years Rita was a stay-at-home mom to her six children. Throughout those years she still found pockets of time to devote to her myriad interests and causes. She sewed and painted and taught herself to play the piano. She was involved in her parish activities, taught CCD, and even marched for civil rights, just to name a few things. In midlife Rita returned to school, graduating magna cum laude from Montclair State University with a double major in English and Psychology. She went on to receive her Masters in Social Work from Rutgers University. Rita retired after many years of dedicated employment with Catholic Community Services in Newark, NJ where she was a social worker. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges where she was also a Eucharistic minister. She was a past president of the Flemington Chapter of AARP; and she was a member of the Essex Water Color Society.
Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her beloved husband, Patrick E. Kane on November 19, 1985; and her sister, Gloria Fahy.
Rita is survived by six loving children, Eileen and her husband Paul Sottovia of South Port, NC, Kathleen Kane and her husband Louis Sdegnante of Morris Township, NJ, Rita Myer of Flemington, Patrick Kane and his wife Marie of Hillsborough, Colleen and her husband Charles Puglia of Flemington, and Michael Kane and his wife Danya of Flemington. She will be deeply missed by ten cherished grandchildren, Brian Sottovia, Rosemary and her husband Brandon Clare, Michael P. Kane and his wife Alexandra, Keith Sottovia and his wife Sandra, Alyssa Puglia, Patrick M. Kane, Chelsea Puglia, Jenna Myer, Olivia Kane, and Matthew Kane; and six adored great grandchildren, Mia Sottovia, Colin Clare, Pierce Kane, Alexander James Kane, Keira Clare, and Blake Kane.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Tuesday, June 13 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, June 14 from 8:15 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 14 beginning 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 9:45 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges. Rita will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita’s name to Edmundite Missions, 1428 Broad Street, Selma, AL 36701.
