Flemington, NJ- Rosemary Houghton, 93, entered into eternal life on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington surrounded by her family. Born on November 15, 1924 in Aldershot, Hampshire County, England, to the late R. Baden and Rose (Lamport) Powell, she moved to the United States with her family in 1964, settling to New Jersey in 1968.
Rosemary was a strong and exceptional woman. Everyone who knew her just couldn’t help but love her. Being very close to her father, she spent many hours in the garden with him and she worked with him at his lumber yard where they made ammunition boxes during WWII. She also helped her father with his Air Raid Warden duties during that time. Rosemary served as a Sunday school teacher and also sang opera. She loved music and was very fond of animals, feeding any stray, domestic or wild.
Beside her parents, Rosemary was predeceased by her siblings: Elaine Ellis, Harry Powell and Keith Powell.
Rosemary will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 67 years, Derrick Houghton, with whom she joined hands in marriage on September 30, 1950. She will also be missed by her devoted children; Cathrine Monson and David Ian Houghton and his wife Rita; grandson Justin Monson and his wife Megan; her sister-in-law Ula Powell; brothers-in-law Stan Houghton and wife Dorothy and Wilfred Houghton and wife Jenny, as well as her Goddaughter Deborah Wargo and many, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 3-6 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.
At the family’s request, funeral services will be private.
