Roy Francis Cleveland

Roy Francis Cleveland, 89, passed away peacefully with family present on Thursday, June 4, at The House of the Good Shepherd in Hackettstown, NJ.  Born August 3, 1925, he was the son of Francis and Dorothy (Mildrum) Cleveland.  He was born and raised in Staten Island, NY.  He entered the U.S. Coast Guard and served as Quarter Master on the CGC Hibiscus, which patrolled the North Atlantic during WWII.

Following the war, Roy married Barbara Pearl Virtue and settled briefly in Maine.  They moved from Maine to Staten Island and then to Edison, NJ where he was employed as a truck driver for Gold Seal Ice Cream Company of Staten Island, NY and for Swift & Company in Woodbridge, NJ.  He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union for 30 years.  He enjoyed traveling with friends and family, especially going ‘down east’ during the Fall season each year.

He is survived by his three daughters, Sharon Zydiak (Wayne) of High Bridge, NJ, Susan Thomas of Indio, CA, Donna Sanderson (Marc) of Wharton, NJ, and four grandchildren, Curtis Meaney (Kim) of Hampton, NJ, Shawn Bird (Helen) of Pine, CO, Shannon Stocker (Dane) of Collins, NY, and Michael Thomas of Palm Springs, CA.  He was predeceased by his brothers, Arnold Cleveland of West Chester, PA and Francis Cleveland of Staten Island, NY.
