Ruby Belle Van Nest, age 86, formerly of High Bridge, NJ passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Independence Manor in Flemington, NJ.
She was born on July 30, 1931 in Brownsdale, Newfoundland. She spent her early years in Brownsdale until she moved to Toronto and eventually to High Bridge, NJ in 1956 when she married her husband.
She was the daughter of the late Walter and Emma Thorne March.
Her husband, Donald J. Van Nest, passed away in 2015 after celebrating 59 years of marriage.
Ruby demonstrated a fine work ethic working for various companies over the years including Taylor Wharton Iron and Steel, Frelingheisen Insurance, John Bond Insurance and Hunterdon Transformer.
Ruby enjoyed volunteering for her community through her work as a polling assistant on election days and also her involvement with High Bridge United Methodist Church. She was an active member with the Church and also taught Sunday School for many years and volunteered with many Church activities. Ruby was also a past member of the High Bridge Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she volunteered at the town Carnival and marched in many town parades.
Ruby loved to do cross stitch and was very proud of the pieces that she made. She also enjoyed traveling to visit her family. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow.
Survivors include one son; James ‘Jim’ Van Nest and his wife Roseann of Hanford, CA. One granddaughter; Elizabeth Van Nest of San Diego, CA and one grandson; Christopher Van Nest of Woodland Hills, CA. 2 brothers; Ben March and his wife Linda of Brownsdale, Newfoundland and Edward March and his wife Betty of Brownsdale, Newfoundland. Three sisters; Becca Delgado and her husband Carl of Jonesboro, GA, Margaret Hassinger of Ebensburg, PA and Floss Thorne of St. John’s, Newfoundland. One brother-in-law; Ken Koch of Ottawa, Canada. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law.
Predeceased in addition to her husband by one sister; Ida Koch.
Calling hours will be Friday, January 5, 2018 from 7-9pm. Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11am. All at Naughright-Scarponi Funeral Home, 66 Main Street, High Bridge, NJ. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Clinton, NJ.
