BRIDGETON TOWNSHIP, PA – Ruth McGrew Tomlinson, 82, of Bridgeton Township, Upper Black Eddy, PA, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, NJ.
Born November 7, 1933, Ruth was raised on her father’s poultry farm in Upper Black Eddy, PA. She graduated from Palisades High School in 1951 and from Penn State University in 1955. Ruth worked at Kemper Insurance in Syracuse, NY, for 9 years and for Walter B. Howe Insurance in Flemington, NJ. In retirement, she took up clowning. Ruth also served on a crisis hotline. She was an active and well loved member of the Everittstown United Methodist Church. Ruth was a volunteer in John Kennedy’s campaign, active in the Parent Cooperative nursery school movement in Syracuse, secretary on the board of a Planned Parenthood chapter, Cub Scout den mother 8 years, Girl Scout leader 9 years, and served on Marcellus Community Council for 5 years. She was a very loving and yet quiet and reserved person who loved to engage in thoughtful discussions. A truly devout Christian who lived a liberal life that was guided by a belief in God’s love. We will miss her.
Daughter of the late Bertrand and Alice McGrew, Ruth is survived by her two sons Jeffrey Tomlinson and Andrew Tomlinson, her sister Helen Predjulek, her daughter-in-laws Denice Tomlinson and Paula Cornejo, and her grandchildren Nicole, Christine, Michael, Ian, and Matias Tomlinson. She was predeceased by her daughter Bonnie Tomlinson and her brother Donald McGrew.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11 AM at the Everittstown United Methodist Church, 415 County Road 513, Pittstown, NJ with Pastor Tim Espar officiating. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Milford, NJ.
