RVCC Cosmetology Student Earns Gold Medal in State Championship

Raritan Valley Community College Cosmetology student Alexandria Agerston-Miller of Belle Mead received a Gold Medal in the Cosmetology Advanced Competition as part of the New Jersey SkillsUSA State Championships, held May 2 at the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset. The NJ SkillsUSA Championships is a state-level competition for post-secondary students who are enrolled in career and technical educational training programs. More than 2,000 competitors competed in over 90 hands-on skill and leadership contests on May 2. First-place winners of the competition qualify to represent New Jersey at the National Skills USA Leadership and Skills Conference, which will be held June 22-27 in Louisville, Kentucky. In the national competition Agerston-Miller will demonstrate a variety of abilities, including communication skills, long hair dressing and men’s hair cutting. A student in RVCC’s evening Cosmetology program, Agerston-Miller is scheduled to graduate in October. RVCC’s next full-time Cosmetology program begins September 1.
