RVCC Rotaract Club Raises Funds, Helps Pack 40,000 Meals for Children in Africa

Students in the Raritan Valley Community College Rotaract Club joined with members of local Rotary and Rotaract clubs and other organizations and individuals on Friday, February 26, to help pack approximately 40,000 meals to be sent to children in Africa. During the event, organized by the RVCC Rotaract Club with assistance from Stop Hunger Now, the students were joined at RVCC’s Branchburg Campus by more than 200 volunteers including members of Rotary Clubs of Branchburg, Hillsborough and Dunellen; Rotary District Governors; Rotaract Clubs of Rutgers and Kean universities; Interact clubs; local Girl Scouts; various religious and community groups; RVCC faculty, staff, and students; and friends and family. RVCC Rotaract Club president Amanda Donner of Branchburg led the group’s fundraising efforts to prepare for the event. Under her leadership, the club raised approximately $17,000 through donations, bake sales and other fundraising efforts—more than double the amount raised last year when 20,000 meals were packed at a similar event. As members of the RVCC Rotaract Club, students are given the opportunity to serve the community and learn about leadership, civic engagement and responsible citizenship. The Rotaract Club fundraising is continuing at the College, as club members collect donations to help local food banks.
