The public is invited to participate in a variety of free events as part of Raritan Valley Community College’s first Tech Week, May 13-15. The three-day event, celebrating diverse applications of technology, will offer participants the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiences using technology. The events are being organized as an informal conference and get-together and will be held at the College’s Branchburg Campus. Wednesday, May 13: The focus is on “Create.” The morning session (9:30 a.m.-noon, RVCC West Building) will provide participants with an opportunity to learn about the College’s various advanced technology programs in the fields of manufacturing, graphics/motion, and game design. The morning will include a manufacturing technology demonstration (West Building, Room 120) and a media/motion/graphics demonstration (West Building, Room 213), both at 10:30 a.m. The afternoon program (1:30 p.m., Library Lounge) will feature a robotics demonstration and presentation by Bound Brook High School’s FRC Team 56 – R.O.B.B.E. A discussion on robotics-related volunteering opportunities will follow the demonstration. Thursday, May 14: The focus is on “Connect” as participants will be introduced to various opportunities for online volunteerism. The full-day program designed to introduce open source tools to the community will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the West Building, Room 311. Friday, May 15: The focus is on “Collaborate” as participants will work together to engage in various types of social media, including Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and more. The two-hour program will be held from 10 a.m.-noon in the West Building, Room 220.
