Sarah Elizabeth Pickrell, age 82, originally from Hackettstown, NJ passed away at her home on Saturday, August 12, 2017.
She was born on January 16, 1935 in Harrisonburg, VA. The daughter of Charles Heistand Taliaferro and Ruth Fireburgh Taliaferro. Her father was an American Consul in Merida on the Yucatan Penninsula of Mexico when she was born and where she was coined with the nickname “Tupi” which her friends liked to call her. In 1938 they moved to Yarmouth and then on to Halifax, Nova Scotia where she was educated. In 1951 the family moved to Eagle Pass, Texas where she eventually married.
Sarah moved to East Aurora, NY in 1956 and then to Hackettstown, NJ in 1964. She was a stay at home mom while her children were growing up. She later became a receptionist in the radiology department of Charlton Methodist Hospital in Duncanville, Texas.
Sarah loved to listen to music and was an avid reader. She traveled the world scuba diving and loved taking trips with her many friends. In 1991 she moved back to NJ to watch her young grandson Kirk while her daughter Dianne went to Romania to adopt her granddaughter Nicolette. Sarah started her own day care, affectionately called Sarah’s Gang, and watched many children in the area while her grandchildren were young.
She is survived by her daughter; Dianne Lynn Storey and her husband Michael of Clinton Twp., NJ. Three grandchildren; Damian Storey, Kirk Storey and Nicolette Storey. Two sisters; Mary Mullen and her husband Peter of Roanoke, VA and Katie Hollen of TX.
Sarah is predeceased by her son; Scott Pickrell.
