Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Slated at RVCC Theatre

Art of Time Ensemble will present a performance of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Sunday, November 22, at 2 p.m., at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College, Branchburg. The performance is part of the Theatre’s Major Artists Series. Led by internationally renowned concert pianist Andrew Burashko, Toronto’s Art of Time Ensemble has redefined the classical music experience. Fusing high art and popular culture in programs that juxtapose the best of each genre, Art of Time entertains as it enlightens. Steven Page (founder and former lead of the iconic band, Barenaked Ladies) joins an ensemble of singers including Andy Maize (Skydiggers), Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket) and Craig Northey (The Odds) in a re-imagining of the Beatles’ groundbreaking album. The singers, and Art of Time’s world class orchestra, collaborate for an incredible night of music—with a couple of surprises to round out this historic performance. One part tone poem, one part rock opera, Sgt. Pepper has defined an era for almost half a century—and yet it still sounds fresh today. “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” “When I’m SixtyFour,” and “With a Little Help From My Friends” are just a few of Sgt. Pepper’s hits that have become a permanent part of popular culture, earning its designation by Rolling Stone as “the most important rock and roll album ever made.” Singer Alejandra Ribera has called Art of Time Ensemble “as soulful as it is innovative. It’s rare and it’s precious to find such a blend of daring and subtlety. Performing with them was one of the most creatively nourishing moments of my career.” Tickets cost $25 and $35.
