Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III and Readington Township Police Chief Sebastian Donaruma announced that a joint investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, the New Jersey Division of Parole, and the Readington Township Police Department resulted in the arrest of Andrew Michael Schaefer, age 27, of Raritan Borough, New Jersey. According to Prosecutor Kearns, “The joint investigation revealed that the defendant engaged in sexual acts with a child less than 16 years old but older than 13 years old on diverse dates between July and August 2014 in Readington Township.

The defendant was charged with Sexual Assault, a 2nd degree crime, Criminal Sexual Contact, a 4th degree crime, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a 3rd degree crime, and Parole violations. If found guilty at trial, the defendant could be exposed to 5-10 years in state prison for the 2nd degree charge.” Assisting with the arrest was the Raritan Borough Police Department in Somerset County. Bail for the defendant was set at $100,000 by the Honorable Angela F. Borkowski, J.S.C.. He was remanded to the Hunterdon County Jail.
