The Somerset Patriots have announced that right-handed pitcher Lucas Irvine’s contract has been purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization and will report to Single-A Visalia.
Irvine had a 6-8 record, a 3.41 ERA, and a team high 106 strikeouts in 129.1 innings pitched over 22 starts for Somerset this season. His 3.41 ERA put him in the top 10 in pitching in the Atlantic League.
He was also selected to represent the Somerset Patriots as one of the Liberty Division All-Stars earlier this season.
Irvine posted a 4-2 record with a 2.59 ERA and 107 strikeouts over 104.1 innings pitched in 2012 with the Kansas City T-Bones. He did not pitch during the 2014 season.
Irvine has a career 24-25 record in 110 appearances (76 starts) with a 3.09 ERA and 450 strikeouts over 521 innings of work.
Irvine is the fifth Patriots player to be signed by a Major League organization this season, joining Edwin Quirarte (San Francisco Giants), Mickey Storey (Los Angeles Dodgers), Chris Marrero (Chicago White Sox), and Sean Bierman (Baltimore Orioles).
