Spring & Summer at Hunterdon County Parks!

If you are looking for something to fill in those long summer days ahead check out the program offerings at Hunterdon County Parks!

            On Wednesday, May 24th  Botanist, Jared Rosenbaum will be leading us on an “Edible & Medicinal Plants of the Musconetcong Gorge ($15).” We will meet in the parking lot located at 182 Dennis Road, Bloomsbury, at 6:00pm and hike until 8:00pm.

            On Tuesday evening, June 6th, Park Naturalist, Laura Bush will be teaching us the difference between“Butterflies & Moths ($3),” from 6:30-8:00ppm at the lovely Echo Hill Lodge on 42 Lilac Drive. We will take a short walk around the park first, then go inside for a lecture.

            On July 14th on our “Flat Water Paddle,” we will be leisurely paddling on Round Valley from 6:00pm-8:30pm. Sign up and meet us at the boat launch. We supply everything, including safety instructions and maneuvering techniques. We also have a full schedule of river trip planned from May 20 through October 21st!

            Chief Park Naturalist, Tom Sheppard will be leading three bird trips as well. May 20th is our “Mine Road Excursion 9 ($25), June 3rd will be Sussex County Birds ($25), and July 8 will find us looking for “Breeding Birds of Hunterdon County ($20).”  These trips leave from the Arboretum, at 1020 Rt 31 in Lebanon.

            Recreation Program Coordinator, Liz Fulmer still has room on her trip to Bryn Athyn Historic District on her“Landmarks in Light, ($15)” trip on June 20th.  We will leave the Arboretum at 7:00pm and return around midnight! We will visit Glencairn Museum, the Cairnwood Estate and Bryn Athyn Cathedral.  Ms Fulmer will also be teaching several classes at the Arboretum including; a “Diamond Tote It ($37),basket class on May 19 & 26th, “Hypertufa: Make a Garden Flowerpot ($15)” on May 21 and “Felting an Acorn ($6),” on May 23rd.

            We also have on our schedule a relaxing plein air “Landscape Painting: Summer Morning Light ($140),”for six Wednesdays June 28 – August 2 or June 30 – August 4th at beautiful Echo Hill Park. Artists can immerse themselves in the woods, fields or pond area of the park from 9:00 am till noon, or stay as long as you like!

            Ms Lena Shiffman will be offering “Thursday Evening Art, (15 & up),”on Thursday evenings for the month of August ($100). Class starts at 6:30pm – 9:00pm. All mediums and levels of ability are welcome. She will be using the classroom at the Arboretum.

We still have openings in our Summer Nature Program for children at Echo Hill and Teetertown. These day camps run from 9:30pm – 3:30pm.

We also have Performance Camps, Art Camps, and Craft camp, STEM Camps, Sports Camp and Theater Camp!

Our new Harbinger will be posted online June 1st. Stop in the Arboretum, pick one up and visit the gardens then come inside to view our taxidermy collection and our live turtles and  pick one up.
