@ approximately 4:54 AM – Police were called to the area of Rt. 202 and Voorhees Corner Road for a report of a struck pedestrian in the roadway there. Upon arrival, police learned that Howard J. Huber, Jr., age 58 of Iselin, NJ was traveling south in the right hand lane of Rt. 202 in a 2013 Ford van. The van is registered to Bridgford Marketing Company based out of Iselin. While traveling through the intersection with Church Street Extension, Huber’s vehicle struck a pedestrian that was crossing the highway from Voorhees Corner Road toward Church Street Extension. The pedestrian, who was identified as Theodore M. Deptulski, age 73 of Raritan Township, suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigation revealed that Huber was traveling through the intersection with a green traffic signal. Deptulski was crossing the intersection not in the marked crosswalk and against the traffic signal. Deptuslki was wearing all dark clothing which would have contributed to it being difficult to see him at the pre-dawn hour the crash occurred. The crash investigation is ongoing. There are no charges pending at this time. The investigation is being conducted by the Raritan Township Police Department with the assistance of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office. Hunterdon Medical Center Paramedics, the Flemington-Raritan Rescue Squad and the Raritan Township Fire Company assisted at the scene.
