SUSPENDED DRIVER DRINK BEHIND WHEEL AT 10 a.m.

On Sunday, July 26, at approximately 10:00 am, Patrolman Paul Bate stopped a 1997 BMW sedan operated by Thomas Cozzens Jr., age 26, of Clinton Township, on Route 641 for speeding. During the stop, Ptl. Bate developed probable cause to believe that Mr. Cozzens was intoxicated. Mr. Cozzens was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he refused to provide samples of his breath for chemical testing to determine the content of alcohol in his blood. Ptl. Bate charged Mr. Cozzens with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test, Driving While Suspended, and Driving An Uninsured Vehicle. Ptl. Bate additionally charged Mr. Cozzens with Obstruction of Justice after Mr. Cozzens refused to provide information during arrest processing. He was transported to the Hunterdon County Jail in default of $2,500 bail.
