TEEN SUICIDE TOPIC OF PROGRAM AT VOORHEES

d 024

Voorhees High School is launching a new initiative called the Community Health and Wellness Education Series, open to all parents/guardians, students, community and staff members in the North Hunterdon-Voorhees high school district and its sending elementary districts.  The purpose of the Education Series is to highlight topics that are currently affecting students and to educate parents, students and community members on how to deal with these important issues. As you will see in the flyer, click here, three programs are scheduled for this school year with the first one being held on Wednesday, February 3rd regarding Teen Suicide Prevention.  The program will begin at 7:00pm in the Voorhees High School auditorium and last about an hour.

Suicide is now the number two cause of death in teens and unfortunately our district has experienced this tragedy first hand. Attendees will hear an overview of the Lifelines teen suicide prevention program that is part of the health curriculum.  People will learn about the warning signs of depression and suicide, what actions to take to prevent suicide, how to start a conversation, and what local resources are available to you.
