The Third Annual Lehigh Valley Polo for Equi-librium is this Sunday – this is a great cause

“Horses can carry us, entertain us, walk, trot, canter, gallop, turn on a dime, stop and start quickly, help raise money, win trophies, but the most amazing thing horses can do is improve the quality of lives.” – Polly Beste, chairperson emeritus, Equi-librium

On Sunday, September 17, the sport of kings will be played once again at Braden Airpark. The Third Annual Lehigh Valley Polo for Equi-librium, a benefit, will once again pit the defending champion 4Winds Concrete team against the Air Products team; the biggest winner will be the participants and families who make a weekly trip to Nazareth to receive therapy.

Equi-librium is one of only seven Premier Accredited Centers for Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT) in Pennsylvania. This standard, set by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, or PATH, means hope for people with disabilities across the Lehigh Valley and Poconos.

Equi-librium was founded in 2001 to serve children, youth, and adults from Lehigh, Monroe, and Northampton counties. With the farm as a backdrop, about 100 participants a week participate in programs. The organization relies on the strength of a great volunteer base, but the programs run on horsepower – 15, to be exact. What the horses provide, six days a week, are therapeutic sessions designed to address the challenges and needs of each.

This year’s crowd will be even larger and more versed in the sport of polo. Although the field isn’t quite regulation size, many attendees remark they like the smaller field for our exhibition – it’s more intimate, and play is easily followed from one end of the field to the other. VIPs watch from midline, enjoying refreshments catered by The Hamilton Kitchen and sip Bulleit Bourbon punch or Veuve Clicquot champagne – THE beverage of the polo scene worldwide. Our announcer, Paul Geyer, Esq., is highly entertaining and informative, and this year he will be joined by Ashley Russo, providing more information beyond just what’s happening on the field. Elements like the divot-stomping and a children’s polo clinic, at halftime, will remain and be enhanced with Terrier races and a demonstration of polocrosse (lacrosse played on horseback). Across from the VIP tent and sponsor row is tailgate avenue, where spectators deck out their 10’ x 10’ spots, and Lehigh Valley Style will again award prizes to the best tailgate! We’ll again have vendors in the retail tent, sponsored by Boyer Financial Group, and raffle prizes galore.

Whether you come alone, bring a group, or come as a sponsor, you will really enjoy polo. It’s not just for kings anymore – and now part of the social scene of the Valley. For more information, visit, or call 610-365-2266.
