On Monday, June 13, at approximately 4:25 pm, a 2012 Freightliner tractor and trailer operated by Travis Miller, age 39, of Carteret, was traveling Route 31 North when it traveled through a red light at the intersection with Country Club Drive. In doing so, the tractor-trailer struck a 2007 Ford E34 operated by Thomas Emery, age 55, of Lopatcong Township, as Mr. Emery was pulling into the intersection on a green light. As a result, the tractortrailer became disabled and spilled a substantial amount of fuel onto the roadway. Traffic was therefore backed up for several hours while the trucks were removed from the roadway and while the spill was cleaned up by the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Mr. Emery had to be transported to the Hunterdon Medical Center for treatment of apparent minor injuries. Mr. Miller was issued a motor vehicle summons for Failure to Observe Traffic Signal.
