Tractor-Trailer v. Bicycle Crash – helicopter to hospital

On Tuesday, May 19, at approximately 7:25 pm, a 2015 Peterbuilt tractor and trailer operated by Edward Stilip, age 72, of Ocala, FL was traveling north on Route 629 when Mr. Stilip attempted to turn left onto Route 618. In doing so, Mr. Stilip turned into the path of a “BH” bicycle operated by Anthony Blekicki, age 25, of Whitehouse Station, which crashed into the truck. Mr. Blekicki suffered serious injuries and therefore had to be transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital via helicopter for treatment. The helicopter landed in the Farm Credit Union parking lot, located at the intersection of Route 618 and Route 31. Both Mr. Stilip and witnesses advised that sun glare, which hampered visibility, was a contributing factor to the crash. Sergeant Thomas DeRosa, Sergeant Mathew Wilson, Patrolman Harry Bugal, and Patrolman Andrew McCluskey responded. No summonses have been issued at this time. The crash is still under investigation by the Clinton Township Police Department. Paramedics from the Hunterdon Medical Center, the Annandale Hose Company, and the Clinton Rescue Squad responded.
