On Wednesday, June 1, at approximately 8:10 pm, a 1987 Harley Davidson FXR operated by Richard Pedicini, age 44, of Washington, emerged from Riley & Jakes Restaurant with other motorcyclists and attempted to travel north on Route 31. As it did, a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado operated by James Costley 3rd, age 64, of Asbury, which was already traveling Route 31 North, attempted to pass the Pedicini motorcycle on the right. Several witnesses advised that Mr. Costley then “jerked” the wheel of his truck in the direction of Mr. Pedicini. The Costley vehicle then collided with the Pedicini vehicle, knocking Mr. Pedicini off of the motorcycle. Mr. Pedicini was transported to the Hunterdon Medical Center for treatment of lacerations to his arms and back as well as a broken ankle. The investigating officer charged Mr. Costley with Assault By Auto, Reckless Driving, and Improper Passing. Mr. Costley reported that when he pulled over, he exchanged words with and was punched in the face by other motorcyclists who were riding with Mr. Pedicini. He was referred to the Clinton Township Municipal Court in the event he wished to sign complaints.
