On Saturday, November 7, at approximately 1:10 am, Patrolman Umair Latif stopped a 2012 Honda Pilot on Interstate 78 West near Exit 15 for speeding and failing to maintain lane. During the stop, the driver stated that he was not in possession of his driver’s license, identified himself as Jahagir M. Turan, and provided a date of birth that would have made him thirty-nine (39) years-old. However, while standing at roadside, the driver’s New Jersey driver’s license fell out of his pocket and onto the ground. Officers identified the driver as Zaki Turan, age 33, of Parsippany, and arrested him for Hindering Apprehension. He was then found to have a $200 motor vehicle warrant for his arrest and to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and a cut straw with residue. As a result, Ptl. Latif charged Mr. Turan with Hindering Apprehension, Possession of Under 50 Grams of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Operating a Motor Vehicle While In Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Speeding, and Failure to Maintain Lane. He was transported to the Hunterdon County Jail in default of $1,000 bail.
