Upcoming Hunterdon County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day – Saturday, July 11th

A Household Hazardous Waste Cleanup Day for residents of Hunterdon County will be held rain or shine on Saturday, July 11th at the Hunterdon County Library complex located at 314 State Route 12 in Flemington (Raritan Township).  Acceptable materials can be dropped off from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  No pre-registration is required.


Up to 10 gallons or 80 pounds of the following items will be accepted at no charge:  latex and oil based paints (please consolidate paints, keeping them separated by type, to make full cans), varnish and stains, herbicides, gas-oil mix, mercury, insecticides, pool chemicals, photographic chemicals, fuel oil and sludge, paint thinner, pesticides, aerosol cans, battery acid, asbestos pipe wrap (dampen and triple wrap in plastic), gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, drain cleaner and fluorescent tubes (please wrap in newspaper or put in original packaging).


Quantities greater than the 10 gallon/80 pound limit will incur a charge for disposal. There is no quantity limit on used motor oil, automotive batteries, antifreeze or fire extinguishers.


Items that are not accepted include 20 pound or larger cylinders (including barbeque grill tanks), household garbage and other solid waste, radioactive materials, explosives, pentachlorophenol, PCB’s, Silvex and any empty containers.


One additional County Hazardous Waste Cleanup Day will be held in 2015 on Saturday, November 14th.


A P.O.P.S. collection event for Paints, (waste engine) Oil, (20 lb.) Propane Tanks and Smoke Detectors only will be held Saturday, September 26, 2015.


No computers, monitors or other electronics items will be accepted at this event; they can be recycled at a special County sponsored collection day for electronics being held on Saturday, October 10th from9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at same the State Route 12 location.
