On November 12, the Voorhees Stars celebrated the end of another successful softball season. The annual softball banquet was held at the historic Publick House Restaurant in Chester. The Stars’ High School Division team won their third straight Mid-States Girls Softball League Championship in July. The Mid-States Girls Softball League is the premier girls’ fast pitch travel league in Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren Counties. All players received customized practice T-shirts. The Voorhees Stars program began in 1996, inspired by former Voorhees High School graduate Michele Smith, who capped off an incredible softball career by winning consecutive gold medals for the United States Softball Team in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. The Stars program offers summer, fall and winter competition, and an overnight softball skills camp in June for local players. Try-outs for the 2018 teams can be arranged by contacting program director Mario Colitti at firstname.lastname@example.org.
