William Thompson died on February 27, 2017 at the Lyons Campus VA Hospital in Lyons NJ.
He was born the son of the late Vincent and Angelica (Perez) Thompson in Trujillo, Peru on March 15, 1926.
In 1931 he came to the United States by ship, the SS Santa Inez owned by The Grace Line.
He arrived with his mother, brothers and sisters to meet his father who was a master watch maker who had a store on Vesey Street in Lower Manhattan.
The family lived in Coney Island for many years.
William joined the United States Navy at 16 years old and attained the rank of Seaman First Class. He served on two ships in the Normandy Invasion and was awarded the Victory Medal, European Theater Medal 1 Star, and the American Theater Medal.
He was wounded when his ship hit a mine and has spent most of his life in Hospitals and Nursing Homes.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday March 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM in St. John Neumann RC Church 398 Route 513, Califon, NJ 07830. Calling hours will be on Friday from 5:00PM until 9:00PM in the Coughlin Funeral Home 15 Academy Street Califon, NJ 07830.
Interment will be private.
