WOMAN TRIES TO WALK OUT OF SHOP RITE WITH FULL CART flees but not far enough

Tuesday, May 12, 2015 @ approximately 7:12 PM – Detectives arrested Colleen M. Coghlan, age 27 of Frenchtown, NJ and charged her with shoplifting from Shop-Rite on Rt. 202/31. Police were initially called to Shop-Rite on Tuesday, May 5 at approximately 3:15 PM for a report of a female who attempted to leave the store with a full cart of groceries without paying. Store staff confronted the woman, who advised that she left her wallet in her car and was going out to retrieve it. Store staff kept the cart at the courtesy counter while the woman went to retrieve her wallet. The woman subsequently got into a vehicle and immediately left the parking lot. Store staff was able to obtain a license plate number from the vehicle. The items that were in the cart were scanned and they were valued at $108.66. Further investigation by detectives, including use of store surveillance camera footage, led to Coghlan. She was subsequently charged with shoplifting. Initial investigation by P.O. Al Cox.
